Canadian pop-punks the Ripcordz began playing together in 1980, just didn't get around to releasing an record album until 1988's Ripcordz Are Go! Since then, guitarist/singer Paul Gott has been the only keystone of the grouping, with a ever-changing vagabond of bassists and drummers falling into the Ripcordz ranks. In 1992 they released deuce albums, Kidnoise and On that point Ain't No "H" in Ripcordz, Dork-Face, the latter of which revealed the band's passion of outstandingly long album titles. Other releases include Your Mother Wears Army Boots But Man She Looks So Cool (1996), Is That a Squeegee in Your Pocket or Are You Just Happy to See Me? (1998), and It's Never Too Late to Annoy Your Parents (2000). In 2003, the Ripcordz returned with What if They Held a Revolution and Nobody Came? on Mayday Records; the following year Mayday reissued their 1988 debut, Ripcordz ar Go!

DJs Jonathan More and Matt Black, aka Coldcut, blush wine to applaud in the mid-'80s through production and remix go for a number of modern stone, rap, and dance outfits, including Yaz, Lisa Stansfield, Junior Reid, Blondie, Eric B. & Rakim, and Queen Latifah. While that connexion has pegged them as a production of the U.K. acidic wandering house and rave scenes, the pair's larger allegiance has been to urban breakbeat styles such as hip-hop, ambient dub, and jungle; the three of which take established the bulk of their recorded output since their offset base mid-'80s white-label EP, Hey Kids, What Time Is It? Comprising contrive titles like Hedfunk, Hex, DJ Food, and Coldcut, More and Black experience assembled an empire of U.K. breakbeat and data-based hip-hop through their Ninja Tune/Ntone labels and been a integrative force in resistance experimental electronic music through their eclecticist wireless show, Solid Steel, and clubhouse and turn dates.

More than and Black got their start, non surprisingly, as radio DJs, working at the sea rover station Network 21 during the first half of the '80s, and latching onto the snowballing club scene mid to late-decade. Their title to early celebrity, Hey Kids, What Time Is It?, was modeled on the cut'n'scratch lazy Susan esthetic of resistance deck heroes care Grandmaster Flash and Double D & Steinski. Widely regarded as the U.K.'s first breaks track record and an influential force in bringing personal identity to London's nascent lodge culture, the record -- released as a U.S. import billed to DJ Coldcut to avoid sampling judicial proceeding -- opened as many doors for More and Black as it did for DJs, delivery scores of production and remix work their way. The attention (and sales royalties) also allowed them to set up their Ninja Tune and Ntone labels, which together have been home to some of the to the highest degree acclaimed and influential artists of London's post-rave subway system view, including DJ Food, Drome, Journeyman, 9 Lazy 9, Up, Bustle & Out, and the Herbaliser.

Although Coldcut was their earliest nom de pluck, following a befogged constrict with Arista, the name remained in legal channels for the following few years. The intervening period found the pair no less active, releasing a flood of material under different name calling and continuing to exercise with young groups. The Coldcut name returned to More and Black in 1995, and the geminate noted with a ruffle CD as contribution of the Journeys by DJ series dubbed 70 Minutes of Madness. The tone termination was credited with delivery to wider attention the sorting of freestyle salmagundi the couple were of all time known for through their wireless yield on KISS FM, Solid Steel, and their stiff clubhouse dates, a manner that has since taken off through clubs like Blech and the Heavenly Sunday Social. In 1997, Coldcut lastly released some other full-length, Allow Us Play! Two years subsequently, the partner off followed up with the remix album Let Us Replay! Numerous shuffle CDs appeared ahead they returned in 2006 with the fresh album Good Mirrors, a slip album that recalled their debut.

Panned by reviewer, then told to go bankrupt

A British composer was told to go bankrupt yesterday after he unsuccessfully tested to eugene Sue the London Evening Standard for libel. Keith Burstein ran up legal costs of 67,000 defending a test suit libel action against Associated Newspapers, publishers of the Standard, over a critical review of one of his operas.

He told Chief Registrar Stephen Baister in the Royal Courts of Justice that he was pickings the case to the European Court of Human Rights. The registrar said Mr Burstein was entitled to take the showcase in Europe but he was compulsory to give the legal costs already run up. This would entail complying with a court monastic order against him by remunerative the 67,000.

When Mr Burstein told the registrar he could not pay, Mr Baister replied: "Then you go insolvent." He added that, in balancing the rights of Associated Newspapers against the speculative nature of what Mr Burstein was hoping to do, it was proper to rule on the side of the newspaper group, which besides publishes the Daily Mail, in forcing him to pay legal costs.

Mr Burstein, 51, confirmed that he would non be able to pay. He is working on a new symphony for the South Bank Symphonia and on an opera with Ben Okri, the Booker Prize winner. "I lead a rather simple life and don't have got many real possessions," he said later.

"But I see this on-going process as a fight I had to look at on, having been incriminated by the initial allegement of idealization. This has no effect on the application to the European Court of Human Rights, which is pending. I will battle all the way in defence of everyone's civil liberty to freedom of thought and expression. There is something really instead sinister in a majority rule about a newspaper chemical group forcing an artist to go bankrupt."

The libel action concerned Mr Burstein's opera, Manifest Destiny, performed at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2005. The critic Veronica Lee wrote in the Standard: "I ground the tone depressingly anti-American, and the idea that there is anything heroic about felo-de-se bombers is, frankly, a grievous revilement". Mr Burstein said that readers would have grounds to think him a terrorist sympathiser who "applauds the military action of self-destruction bombers and raises them to the level of heroism".

The High Court initially ruled that the case should go before a panel but that was upturned by the Appeal Court. That court's ruling was widely interpreted as a landmark decision in respect of the right of journalists to write contemptuous reviews.

Lord Justice Waller, who had seen the opera, described it as "plainly anti-American... it deals with matters upon which strong opinions could be legitimately held". Mr Burstein reiterated his desire to be time-tested in movement of a jury, claiming that the "privileges and responsibilities of free speech had been abused."

During their everyday work through the eighties, Münster, Germany's Mad Max recorded four albums of pretty footer and cliché-ridden heavy rock: 1982's eponymic debut, 1984's Rollin' Thunder, 1985's Stormchild, and 1987's Night of Passion. The final three of these were released by Roadrunner Records, which put up with the band's incessant personnel department turnover for near quartet years earlier giving up and falling what proved to be the last Mad Max batting order of vocalist/guitarist Michael Voss, guitarist Jurgen Breforth, bassist Roland Bergmann, and drummer Axel Kruse in 1988. The group instantly splintered, only wound up reuniting in the class 2000 to book a rejoinder album, competently named Never Say Never, and once more in 2006 for the more bewilderingly titled Nox of White Rock.

Dancer George Britain's Got Talent's Shock Winner

‘Street Dancer’ George Sampson was named the shock winner of ITV talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ last night.
The 14-year-old broke down in tears in the traditional fashion after securing the £100,000 top prize for his modern dance routine of ‘Singing In The Rain’.
He gushed, "I'm speechless, wow. Just thanks so much everybody. You've changed my life and I couldn't ask for anything else. Thanks so much."
Judge Simon Cowell said he was particularly pleased after he was vetoed by the other judges from putting George through to the live finals after he auditioned for last year’s series.
He told the youngster, “Let me tell you, you are the dancing version of Rocky, young man - you deserve everything because you battled your way to the top. I'll tell you what: it's a better story than Billy Elliot. I genuinely didn't think George would win.
"It's the biggest shocker I have ever known in my life and it's one of the best feelings I have ever had when the winner was announced.
"You just know this kid's needed a break in his life and he's battled his way to a win. You can see that kid has needed to do this to change his life."

Armin Van Buuren 'Imagine'

Armin Van Buuren's 3rd studio album is "Imagine"

Imagine is the hotly anticipated third artist album from Armin van Buuren, the worlds number 1 DJ, as voted by the public in DJ Mags prestigious DJ Top 100 poll. Testament to Armins ongoing transition from producer to fully-fledged artist, its the perfect amalgamation of beats and electronica with lush chords and songwriting.
As Armin explains on his website, the main inspiration for a lot of the tracks has come from the theme imagine.
Imagine for me stands for the way I visualise music when I listen to it, and a lot of people have that same connection with music, especially trance which is so emotionally driven. Music is very personal for everybody, and what I've realised from my travels is that music transcends everything the same music can touch people all over the world. You cant judge someone else on their taste in music, and you cant turn people onto music that isnt for them - its just something that resonates with each individual. One of the beautiful things about being human is that we can imagine, create, and escape back into our imagination when we want to recall a feeling or invent something new
There is no doubting that the trance genres universal appeal and Armins dedication to the music style have contributed to his massive global success (including a radio show that broadcasts over 40 FM stations as well as satellite and internet radio, with over 6 million listeners a week). His latest offering, Imagine, is the product of two years work, with tracks recorded across 8 locations, from Washington to Holland, and LA to Ireland, and featuring a number of vocals, from the sublime tones of American Jennifer Rene to the rock-friendly sound of Liverpudlian Chris Jones on Going Wrong (released as a single and currently making a serious impact on the airwaves).

I tell all of the producers on Armada to do something they love, not just to produce what people expect, and this is what Ive done with Imagine.

Some of the tracks are more melodic and chilled than past productions, says Armin, but the great thing about trance is the number of guises that it comes in. The intro track, Imagine, is an instrumental that takes in a number of different styles orchestral elements, guitar, kickdrums trance has been criticised for being stuck in one formula but if you look around that just isnt the case. Trance DJs dont just play one style of music and are often influenced by many different genres as well. For me, it can be everything from the lush chords and guitars of Pink Floyd to the song structures of the Beatles or the vocal sounds of Amy Winehouse!
As well as vocals from the likes of Cathy Burton, Audrey Gallagher, Vera Ostrova of The Bluestorm, Sharon den Adel of rock band Within Temptation and more, the album features Armins brother on guitar on four of the tracks as well.
Its amazing how much we use the word Imagine in our daily language says Armin. I hope this album resonates in the same way, and everybody can find a piece of music or a lyric that means something to them. A lot of the tracks are about love one of the ultimate triggers of emotion on all ends of the spectrum. Ive loved putting them together, from sitting down to write them to arranging and recording them. I tell all of the producers on Armada to do something they love, not just to produce what people expect, and this is what Ive done with Imagine.

U23D breaks box office records

'U23D', the first live-action movie ever shot, produced and exhibited in digital 3-D, has broken box office records in Ireland.
U2's concert film had the highest screen average (€11,192) of any film playing in Ireland last weekend and took in €89,538 from just eight cinema screens in its first three days.
Justin Marciano, Managing Director of Revolver Entertainment which is distributing the film in Ireland and the UK said: "This weekend's takings for the film prove that there is an enormous appetite for this kind of filmmaking."
He added: "We're eager to see how it grows in scope as more audiences experience this step forward in 3D technology."
Filmed in South America during U2's 'Vertigo Tour', 'U23D' was directed by Catherine Owens, U2's visual content director for more than 15 years, and Mark Pellington, who directed U2's 'One' video.

Can Niche Audience Make 'Sex And The City' A Hit?

Analysts are sharply divided over whether New Line's Sex and the City: The Movie will benefit from or be hurt by its avid female fan base, the Los Angeles Times observed today (Thursday). "It's easier to find $2-a-gallon gas than a straight man eager to see the movie," the Times commented. On the other hand, some thirtysomething women "are organizing ladies' night viewing parties" around the film. While some analysts are forecasting an opening weekend of around $40 million, others are predicting a figure of half that amount. A lot depends on whether younger women (the film is rated R, so the very young are excluded from screenings) join their elders at the multiplex, the Times suggested, noting that interest among that group is growing.

Carlene Carter has always straddled the line 'tween res publica and stone. Beginning her career as a rock singer in the mid-'70s, she became immersed in the new wave in the tardy '70s, earlier emerging as a new country singer in the former '80s, Throughout it all, her music has forever infused roots music -- whether country or rock & roll -- with a nervy, overstrung free energy.

Carlene is the girl of June Carter and Carl Smith, wHO divorced when their girl was just two. June would frequently take her girl on Carter Family tours, which meant that Carlene developed a musical pastime at an early eld. When she was 12, her female parent marital Johnny Cash. Following the marriage, Carlene and her half sister, Rosanne Cash, became backup singers in the Carter/Cash touring point.

At the long time of 15 she marital Joe Simpkins and had a baby; they were divorced within a few age. Carter enrolled in college as a piano major in her late teens, simply she never gradatory. At 19, she married Jack Routh and had some other child; they were divorced within two years.

In 1978, she distinct to follow up on a musical career, bearing to Los Angeles where she received a phonograph record contract with Warner Bros. Her debut album, Carlene Carter, was a stone & wheel disk recorded in London with Graham Parker's backup band, the Rumour. The following year, she released her indorsement album, Two Sides to Every Woman, which featured support from the Doobie Brothers. That same year she marital Nick Lowe, wHO was presently the co-leader of the new wave stone & roll revivification striation, Rockpile. Lowe helped Carter condition her melodic direction in the early '80s, and her third album -- the new wave-inflected country-rock record Musical Shapes (1980) -- showed the influence of Lowe, Rockpile, and Dave Edmunds. Although the album was critically acclaimed, it was a commercial failure. She followed Musical Shapes in 1981 with Gentle Nun, which continued to follow up on a young wave-country direction; care its predecessor, it was unheeded.

During the early '80s, Carter was close off from the commonwealth community because she was living in England with Lowe. After Gentle Nun, she stopped-up recording, choosing to do solo shows instead; she as well had a prima use in the theatrical production Pump Boys and Dinettes. Carter and Lowe's married couple collapsed in the mid-'80s and she returned to the States, where she became part of the touring Carter Family.

In 1989, she began working on a comeback book with Howie Epstein, the bassist for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. That same year, she performed a yoke with Southern Pacific on the Top 40 hit "Time's Up." Reprise signed Carter in 1990 and she released her delinquent fifth record album, I Fell in Love, by and by that year. I Fell in Love soundless had john Rock influences, but it was a more straightforward country criminal record than her old albums, and country radio paid attention. The album became a hit and deuce singles, "I Fell in Love" and "Get on Back," climbed all the way to number trey. Little Love Letters, her 1993 follow-up (which was released on Giant Records), was evenly successful; its first-class honours degree unmarried, "Every Little Thing," was another number deuce-ace stumble. Little Acts of Treason, her 1995 album, wasn't as liberal a collide with as its deuce predecessors, simply it static enjoyed temper success on the country charts. A hits collection, Hindsight 20/20, appeared in the settle of 1996.

By bringing together the exotic instrumentation of world music with a new age-style sense of self-exploration and a broad palette of ambient electronic sounds, Anugama garnered sufficiency of a little cult undermentioned to sustain a prolific, wordy calling. Though born in Cologne, Germany, where he number one developed his special involvement in music, Anugama's wonder took him to far and upstage lands. He spent his teens in Hamburg, where he played drums and worked in a music storage, before traveling to Asia in his mid-twenties for a life-changing five-year period. While in Asia, he highly-developed a potent interest in religious philosophies and meditation. These interests shortly crept into Anugama's music, which had expanded to contain his multicultural interests: the beats of African and Caribbean music, the rhythms of Hawaii, the meditations of India, and so on. Anugama began releasing one record album afterwards another throughout the '80s that explored his many interests, with him playacting all the instruments. Throughout the '90s, he didn't slow down his output, left as fertile as earlier, astonishing his fad next with his unlimited well of creativity.
